FOR OUR GIRLS
Our mission is to create a safe and supportive group for girls to grow together and navigate this part of their lives in a community of like-minded families. Historically, girls have not been very supported in science and handy work, and the statistics show that men dominated those fields. Our girls will change that.
DAILY SCHEDULE
9:45-11:00am – English Language Arts/Writing
Project-based and collaborative, this time will include book club style discussions, story creation and collaboration, and reading development targeted to each girl individually.
11:00-11:15am – Snack/Free Time
11:15-12:00pm – Math
Math will be game heavy, but also focus on the goal of fast recollection of addition/subtraction and multiplication facts, which are the foundation for everything beyond. Student learning will be scaffolded where they are at.
12:00pm- 1:00pm – Free play and lunch
Free play and lunch make up the third hour. All of the lunches will be cooked on site and are based on the French school lunch ideology - whole foods, a variety of things to try, multi course. We will serve a challenge food every week that is something not typical in American meals. We also provide foods that we know kids will like, so no one goes hungry.
1:00-2:00pm – Science
Monthly themes will include chemistry, human biology, ecology, Earth systems, microbiology and other 2nd and 3rd grade aligned Washington state science curriculum. Class time will be very hands on and students will lead much of the discussion.
2:00-3:00pm – Project Hour
The last hour we call project time. We utilize the woodshop on site. We will touch on basic building techniques and encourage artistic creativity and trust in one's abilities.
